A fundamental requirement is that you
must come to lectures. An occasional absence will be
understood provided there is a reasonable excuse (e.g., you were
delayed by a terrorist incident, you have to be away to compete in an
official university sporting event, or your boy/girl friend had to be
picked up at the airport and you were absolutely the only possible
person able to do this).
It is assumed that you have seen some modern physics before in a prior course (typically PHY 3104 - Modern Physics).
You will need to get a copy of the textbook:
Introduction to Solid State Physics, 7th Ed., by Charles Kittel (John Wiley, New York, 1996).
There will be assigned readings from the text and also homework problems will be assigned from it.
